FALSETTOS
Sound designing Falsettos was simultaneously the best and most challenging project I’ve worked on so far. I collaborated closely with the director, Anton Peter, to ensure that the sound design complemented the emotional depth and technical demands of the show without overpowering it. Set in late 1970s and early 1980s New York, Falsettos follows Marvin as he navigates complex relationships with his son, ex-wife, boyfriend, and psychiatrist. Act I, March of the Falsettos, explores Marvin’s struggle to build a new kind of family, balancing humor with heartfelt tension. In Act II, Falsettoland, Marvin reconnects with his estranged boyfriend Whizzer against the ominous backdrop of the AIDS crisis. Through our collaborative process, the sound design was crafted to underscore the show’s themes of love, loss, and resilience, amplifying the impact of this story about chosen family and the power of connection.
